Tangerang Selatan police dismantle Rp36 billion counterfeit money ring

Police in Tangerang Selatan have dismantled a high-quality counterfeit money production ring. During a raid at a warehouse in the Taman Tekno area, authorities seized 360,000 counterfeit Rp100,000 banknotes, with an estimated total value of Rp36 billion.

The counterfeit notes were classified as ‘grade A’ quality, featuring advanced security elements such as serial numbers, security threads, holograms, and national symbols. Investigators noted that the suspects intended to circulate the money through a private bank by mixing the fake notes with genuine currency.

Four suspects were apprehended, including three producers and one investor who provided the orders. Notably, two of the suspects are recidivists with prior convictions for similar crimes in 2019 and 2022. The police are involving Bank Indonesia as an expert witness to assist in the legal proceedings.
