Latin America sees surge of violent attacks on civilians

A wave of armed assaults has left multiple victims across several Latin American countries. In Argentina, a delivery rider for Pedidos Ya was chased, shot in the leg and robbed of his motorcycle in Luján; a 16‑year‑old was stabbed to death in Laguna Yema; a teenager was shot in the head during a neighborhood brawl in San Fernando; and a 22‑year‑old was detained after threatening a man with a machete in Mirador de las Culturas, Mexico. In Mexicali, Mexico, a state security officer and his wife were killed by gunmen who opened fire on their home. In the Dominican Republic, two men shot a brother and killed his sibling in Monte Plata. In Peru, an armed assailant opened fire inside a bakery in Pereira, killing one man. In Colombia, a ride‑hailing driver was murdered by gunmen on motorcycles in Soacha. Argentine courts also confirmed pre‑trial detention for suspects in a child‑killing car‑jacking in Frontera and for a man accused of attempting to murder his ex‑partner’s new companion in Olavarría. These incidents, ranging from attempted homicides to multiple‑victim shootings, underscore a troubling rise in violent crime across the region.
