Police dismantle illegal poaching network in Galliate, Italy
Carabinieri Forestali in Galliate uncovered an illegal poaching operation in the Ticino Park. Investigators found metal‑clad traps, bait, and two men refilling the devices daily, identified through photo‑traps. Searches of a suspect's home seized 44 hunting weapons, assorted ammunition, cages, bait, and several protected specimens, including two ivory tusks, a puffer‑fish and an adult male lion, all covered by CITES. The material was placed under seizure while the inquiry, coordinated by the Novara prosecutor’s office, continues to trace the origin of the items and determine responsibility.
The operation highlights ongoing challenges in combating wildlife trafficking and illegal hunting in the region.
