Police dog poisoned at Rio Branco prison in Acre

On 14 July 2026, a police dog named Nikita, a Rottweiler trained for inmate patrol, was poisoned in the outdoor yard of the Dr. Francisco de Oliveira Conde prison in Rio Branco, Acre, Brazil. Prison officials said inmates threw bread laced with medication at the dogs, a method they described as “the poisoning of dogs occurs when inmates mix permitted medicines into food such as bread and throw it over the cell bars.”
