Police find body in shallow grave in São José do Xingu
Civil Police discovered a body buried in a shallow grave in a forested area along the MT-322 highway in the rural zone of São José do Xingu. The discovery was made on Wednesday morning near the Xingu River ferry crossing, supported by search dogs from the Barra do Garças Fire Department.
Investigators believe the remains may belong to a 23-year-old worker from Tocantins who has been missing since March 30. The man had traveled to the region with three colleagues to work on a farm. He disappeared after leaving the property to purchase supplies for the farm.
The primary investigative line suggests the victim may have been executed due to suspected ties to a criminal faction rival to those under investigation. Authorities also recovered the victim's motorcycle, which had been found burned in a separate forested area approximately 10 kilometers away, possibly as a tactic to hinder the investigation. Forensic examinations are required to officially confirm the identity of the remains.
