Police in Romania apprehend fugitive and convict thief

In separate legal developments in Romania, authorities have addressed cases of theft and evasion.

A 41-year-old man was convicted by the Câmpeni Court for theft and disturbance of possession. The crimes, committed throughout 2023, involved damaging wire fences and removing iron bars from a plot of land located between two shops in Câmpeni. The court also noted that the individual had illegally occupied the land by setting up a tent and refusing to leave. Despite the defendant's denials, the court found him guilty, noting his criminal record and status as a recidivist.

Separately, police from the Alba Iulia Organized Crime Combatting Brigade located a 54-year-old fugitive in the isolated village of Cheia, within the Apuseni Mountains. The man, identified as Mihai Eracle P., had been wanted nationally for eight months after failing to return to the Giurgiu Penitentiary on February 5, 2026. He was serving a sentence of 6 years and 8 months for rape, which had been temporarily interrupted for medical reasons. He was found living in a shed and has been handed over to local police for re-incarceration.
