Authorities in Vâlcea County, Romania, have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of 28-year-old Valentina Ioana Tănăsie's body inside a suitcase floating in the Olt River near the Ionești Dam. The discovery was made by local fishermen on September 22, 2026.

Medical examiners determined the death was violent, occurring around September 21. The autopsy revealed the victim suffered two traumatic blows to the head, one of which was likely fatal, as well as five broken ribs and various other injuries.

The primary suspect is identified as the victim's 30-year-old partner, Vlad Bălțățeanu. Investigators believe he may have fled the country via the Vama Nădlac border crossing before the body was found. During a search of the suspect's residence, authorities discovered multiple blood-like stains on a mattress. The victim's father reported that the couple had been involved in frequent arguments and that the suspect had recently accused the victim of infidelity.
