Police in Salento identify nearly 3,000 people during security operations
The State Police have intensified security operations across the Salento region and the province of Lecce, following orders from Questore Giampietro Lionetti. These extraordinary prevention and control services were heightened during the recent Sant’Oronzo celebrations to ensure public safety in urban centers and coastal areas.
Over the past week, authorities identified 2,958 individuals and inspected 1,191 vehicles. A significant intervention occurred in Lido Marini, where officers from the Puglia Meridionale Crime Prevention Department caught a 27-year-old man from Gagliano del Capo in the act of selling marijuana to a driver.
The suspect, who was already under house arrest, was found in possession of marijuana, cash, a precision scale, and a 34-centimeter military-style dagger. Subsequent searches of the suspect's residence led to the seizure of an additional 70 grams of marijuana. The individual was arrested for drug trafficking.
