Police crack down on electronic fraud in Spain and Dominican Republic

Authorities in Spain and the Dominican Republic have conducted several operations targeting electronic and telephone fraud.

In Spain, the National Police recovered 215,662 euros for a company in Albacete that fell victim to a ‘spoofing’ scam, where fraudsters impersonated bank security staff to manipulate the victim into authorizing fraudulent transfers. In a separate case, two individuals were arrested in Valencia and Sagunto for a telephone scam that defrauded a resident of Valladolid of nearly 50,000 euros through social engineering and identity theft. Additionally, prosecutors in Cáceres are seeking a three-year prison sentence for a company representative accused of aggravated fraud involving a fake online mobile phone sale.

In the Dominican Republic, the Cyber Police arrested multiple individuals involved in various technological crimes. Investigations include a WhatsApp-based hotel reservation scam in Higüey and illicit bank transfers in Santiago de los Caballeros. These cases involve identity theft on social media platforms and fraudulent investment promises made via messaging applications.
