Police increase traffic enforcement near schools in Lucerne and Wiesbaden

Police authorities in Lucerne, Switzerland, and Wiesbaden, Germany, have conducted intensified traffic monitoring near schools to ensure student safety at the start of the new school year.

In Lucerne, coordinated speed checks resulted in over 300 recorded speeding violations in a single day. Eight drivers are being reported to the public prosecutor. The police are emphasizing the ‘Bremse’ (braking) aspect of their prevention campaign, encouraging defensive driving to reduce stopping distances near schools and residential areas.

In Wiesbaden, the city police reported a calmer traffic situation following targeted interventions. Officers focused on morning drop-off periods, addressing issues such as ‘parent taxis’ that park in second rows, perform illegal turns in narrow streets, or ignore no-stopping zones. While the police utilized dialogue to encourage safer habits, such as letting children out on the sidewalk side, they also issued warnings and addressed safety violations regarding seatbelts and booster seats.
