Police inspector escapes armed robbery attempt in Suriname

A 45-year-old police inspector narrowly escaped an armed robbery attempt on Monday, October 5, along the J. A. Pengelstraat in Suriname. The victim, identified as D. D., reported being cornered by a vehicle near El Molino, at which point three masked, armed men exited the car.

After the inspector managed to drive away using a motorcycle path, the suspects pursued him in a dark grey Toyota Vitz. During the chase, the suspects reportedly struck the inspector's vehicle from behind. In response to the attack and to protect himself, the inspector discharged his firearm at the suspects' vehicle.

The suspects fled the scene and abandoned their Toyota Vitz near Van Sypesteynlaan, reportedly transferring to another vehicle. The Capital Crimes department of the police has taken over the investigation to identify the suspects and determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the attempted robbery.
