Police intercept illegal cattle transportation in India

Law enforcement and local vigilantes have conducted separate operations to intercept illegal cattle smuggling in India.

In Maharashtra, Nashik Road police set up a trap on the Nashik-Pune highway following tips from cattle protection activists. Authorities seized seven pickup trucks carrying 16 cattle in overcrowded conditions. Eleven suspects were booked after failing to produce required permits from local officials. The rescued animals were moved to a shelter.

In Odisha, local vigilantes and Kendujhar Town Police intercepted two pickup vans on National Highway 49. More than 20 cattle were rescued from the vehicles, which were reportedly packed without proper ventilation. While police took custody of the vehicles, the drivers fled the scene. Investigations are underway to identify the owners and trace the route from Angul district to Mayurbhanj district.
