Police intercept suspected street race in Gelsenkirchen-Buer
Two drivers, aged 19 and 22, were intercepted by undercover police officers in Gelsenkirchen-Buer during a suspected illegal street race early Thursday morning.
The incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. on Kurt-Schumacher-Straße. While an undercover police vehicle was stopped at a red light, a BMW and an Audi were positioned in adjacent lanes. According to police, the drivers were communicating with each other before accelerating rapidly with screeching tires and loud engines once the light turned green.
Officers followed the vehicles and ordered them to stop at De-La-Chevallerie-Straße. Authorities have confiscated the drivers' licenses and both vehicles. Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the men on suspicion of participating in an unauthorized motor vehicle race.
