Police intervene in tourist thefts in Paestum and Viareggio, Italy

In Paestum, local police led by Commander Antonio Rinaldi stopped a theft of a Calabrian tourist on July 31. Officers recovered two suitcases and two high‑value wristwatches after detaining a 27‑year‑old suspect from Agropoli, who had prior theft convictions. The stolen items were seized and the suspect was released on foot pending further legal action.

In Viareggio, an American family was robbed of a €140,000 Patek Philippe watch shortly after returning from Forte dei Marmi. The assailants seized the watch from the father’s wrist on the promenade, fled in a nearby SUV, and left the victims unharmed. Police have opened an investigation, reviewing surveillance footage to identify the perpetrators.
