Police intervention in Žeravice following armed standoff

A 41-year-old man was detained by special police units in Žeravice, near Kyjov, after barricading himself in a house. The incident followed reports that the man had been shooting at a local church.

During the three-and-a-half-hour standoff, the suspect reportedly threatened to detonate an explosive. Police and pyrotechnic experts discovered a gas pistol, an air rifle, and an object resembling a homemade grenade inside the residence. The man also reportedly used a bow to shoot at a neighboring house.

Authorities confirmed the suspect tested positive for drugs, and police seized methamphetamine and marijuana from the scene. Local residents expressed long-standing fear, noting that the individual had a history of erratic behavior and previous shots fired near the church.
