Serbia investigates multiple reports of suspicious document disposal

Authorities in Serbia are investigating several incidents involving the alleged removal or destruction of official documentation from state institutions.

In Belgrade, the Third Basic Public Prosecutor's Office reported that ten bags found outside the Zemun Municipality contained only shredded copies of official records, not originals. Prosecutors interviewed 21 individuals, including the municipal president and heads of public procurement and common affairs, to determine the reasons for the disposal. Currently, no criminal offenses have been established.

In Bor, a student group raised alarms after witnessing the removal of document bags from the Republic Fund for Pension and Disability Insurance (PIO Fund) late at night. Investigations suggest the company SN Cleaning, which has previously received significant contracts from the Fund, was involved. The Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Bor has ordered a police investigation into the matter.

In Prokuplje, the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office ordered police to investigate documents found in a container in Žitorađa, reportedly removed from the municipal building. Additionally, Bojan Panaotović, director of the Cultural Center of Novi Sad, was called to provide information regarding the removal of old magazines and stage scenery following social media allegations of document destruction.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has categorically denied claims of document destruction, labeling them as disinformation intended to damage the institution's reputation.
