Police investigate arson, fatal vehicle fire, and drug smuggling in Papua

Police in Jayapura and Biak have reported several significant criminal developments. In Jayapura, investigators have named a 26-year-old suspect, identified as OR, for allegedly starting a fire that destroyed seven buildings in the Dok IX area. The suspect reportedly used burning egg trays, which were thrown toward houses and kiosks, following a period of alcohol consumption.

In a separate incident in Jayapura, authorities identified two victims, Martinus Ibe and Stevani Hermina, who died in a pickup truck fire on the Ringroad. The victims were residents of Keerom Regency. Police are currently investigating the origin of the vehicle, which bears license plates from South Sulawesi, and determining the exact cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, in Biak, the Biak Numfor Police arrested two individuals, RU and GKY, for smuggling approximately one kilogram of marijuana. The suspects were apprehended at the Biak port upon arrival from Jayapura. The seized narcotics were distributed across 71 separate packages.
