Beckum police investigate death of newborn found in shopping bag

Police and the Public Prosecutor's Office in Münster are investigating the death of a newborn girl found on the side of the road in Beckum, Germany. The infant was discovered on Saturday, September 26, in a shopping bag from the retailer Poco.

Investigators have narrowed the timeframe in which the baby was left at the Alter Hammweg location to between 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM. Inside the bag, authorities found a red-and-white checkered blanket and a light beige sauna towel labeled ‘Möve for frottana’.

An autopsy has not yet provided a definitive cause of death, and officials are investigating whether a criminal offense occurred. The identity of the mother remains unknown, and police are appealing to the public for information regarding the specific household that might be missing these items or any observations made near the Beckum Riding Club during the specified timeframe.
