Police investigate discovery of human remains in Freeport compound

Police and multi-agency officials are investigating the discovery of several human remains stored in a refrigeration unit at an unauthorized compound in Freeport, Central Trinidad. The discovery occurred on Thursday, September 17, 2026, during an inspection of a premises off Jaisrie Street, near the Uriah Butler Highway.

The operation involved the Multi-Agency Task Force (MATF), the Environmental Management Authority (EMA), the Town and Country Planning Division, and the Chief Medical Officer’s Department. Upon inspection, officials found seven bodies—four males and three females—inside a refrigerated unit, along with an eighth body in an apparent state of decomposition.

The proprietor of the site, identified as the CEO of a funeral agency, was unable to provide immediate documentation for the deceased or proof of authorization for the facility. While the owner claimed to possess death certificates, officials determined the building was not authorized for the storage of human remains. Investigators from the Homicide Bureau and Crime Scene Investigators are working to establish the identities of the deceased and determine how the remains arrived at the location.
