Police investigate Elefsina attack and Australian teacher abuse charges
In Elefsina, Greece, state security services are investigating a violent attack on a 32-year-old man. Two suspects, aged 18 and 22, have been arrested. Police identified the individuals as hardline hooligans and are investigating potential links to far-right groups. Evidence seized includes a flyer titled ‘Nationalism is the only solution’ attributed to the ‘Autonomous Nationalist Youth of Athens’ and clothing bearing the ‘Propatria’ insignia. Both groups have been noted in reports regarding active far-right cores in the country.
In Australia, 32-year-old Greek-Australian educator Dianra Kontou is facing criminal charges related to the alleged sexual abuse of a student under the age of 16. The charges stem from incidents at Newington College in Sydney during 2017. Prosecutors allege that Kontou used her position to engage in inappropriate contact, including sending sexual content and forcing the minor to participate in sexual acts, some of which reportedly occurred during a school trip to Fitzroy Island.
