Police investigate failed 400 million HUF project in Orosháza
Police in Békés County have launched an investigation into suspected anti-competitive behavior regarding a 2019 public procurement project in Gyopárosfürdő. The investigation follows a report filed by the Orosháza municipality on August 24.
The project, which was intended to be funded by 400 million HUF from the Territorial and Settlement Development Operational Programme (TOP), aimed to build a conference center, community space, and 3D cinema at a thermal resort. The municipality had contracted Maxicargo Kft. for approximately 375 million HUF. The Public Procurement Arbitration Board previously determined that the municipality violated procedural rules and that both the municipality and the contractor violated the law during the first contract amendment.
In separate regional news, Balassagyarmat has begun public consultations for a 400 million HUF infrastructure project to renovate inner-city roads and sidewalks using EU and state funds. Additionally, restoration work has commenced on the historic Kapus Bridge in Gyula, a project costing 148 million HUF to address structural issues caused by moisture.
