Police investigate pyrotechnic explosions in Altenburg and Naila
Police in Germany are investigating a series of explosions involving pyrotechnics that occurred on the evening of Saturday, October 17, 2026.
In Altenburg, an unknown perpetrator detonated a pyrotechnic device against a plastic electrical distribution box on Albert-Levy-Straße. The explosion caused significant damage, tearing a large hole in the housing and resulting in property damage estimated in the mid-four-digit Euro range. Energy company employees were called to the scene to ensure the stability of the power supply.
In Naila, located in the Hof district, perpetrators used pyrotechnics to blast a cigarette vending machine from the wall of a restaurant on Hofer Straße. While the attackers failed to access the cigarettes or the money inside, the machine was left on the sidewalk, causing several thousand euros in damage. The structural integrity of the building remains unaffected. The Hof Criminal Police are investigating both attempted theft and the causing of an explosive explosion.
