Police investigate separate adolescent shootings in Brazil and France

In Brazil, a 13-year-old boy was detained in Chapecó after shooting a friend in the head. The victim, also 13, remains hospitalized in serious condition but has recently shown signs of responsiveness. Police report the teenager accessed a firearm left in an easy-to-reach location by his father. The father has been charged with negligence regarding the weapon. While the defense claims the shot was accidental during play, the teenager has been placed in provisional custody for an act analogous to attempted murder.

In France, the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office has taken over an investigation following a shooting at a school near Marseille. A 14-year-old student brought a shotgun to Joseph Lakanal secondary school, injuring a director and a teacher. Both victims are hospitalized but not in life-threatening condition. Authorities are investigating potential links to a terrorist organization and criminal association. The teenager's parents are in police custody as investigators work to determine how the minor obtained the weapon.
