Police investigate separate burglaries in France and Belgium
Authorities are investigating two distinct burglaries involving elderly victims in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, and Ghent, Belgium.
In Neuilly-sur-Seine, an elderly woman discovered her apartment had been burglarized between October 20 and October 28 while she was away. The theft, which included jewelry and a gold bar, is estimated to be worth one million euros. The victim has expressed suspicion toward her housekeeper, who reportedly visited the residence with an unknown individual. The Brigade de Répression du Banditisme (BRB) has taken over the investigation due to the significant value of the stolen items.
In Ghent, an 85-year-old woman suffering from Alzheimer's disease was targeted during a nighttime burglary. The perpetrator searched her home while she slept, stealing her wallet and a note containing her bank PIN codes. Following the theft, approximately 3,000 euros were withdrawn from her accounts. Surveillance footage from the Ghent-Dampoort station area reportedly shows a masked individual using the stolen cards.
