Police investigate separate homicides in Uganda and New York

Authorities in Uganda and the United States are investigating two separate homicide cases.

In Uganda, the body of 60-year-old Michael Kyarugahi was discovered in the Kitaraaka wetland after he went missing from Rushebeya village. Local officials reported that the deceased’s head and right arm had been severed and removed. Local leaders expressed suspicion that the killing may have been motivated by ritual purposes. Police in the Kigezi region have moved the body to Kabale regional referral hospital for a postmortem as investigations continue.

In Rochester, New York, police are investigating the death of Mmunga Eloco, a Congolese refugee, as a homicide. Eloco’s body was found along the Genesee River Trail. Family members and members of the local Congolese community expressed shock, noting that Eloco was a well-known figure in local church choirs and soccer teams. The Rochester Police Department’s Major Crimes Homicide Unit is currently seeking information regarding the incident.
