GKV-Spitzenverband maintains lawsuit against German government
The GKV-Spitzenverband, representing 79 statutory health insurance funds, is proceeding with a lawsuit against the German federal government regarding the financing of healthcare costs for basic security recipients.
Oliver Blatt, chairman of the GKV-Spitzenverband, stated that approximately ten billion euros in funding are missing annually. While the association acknowledged the GKV-Beitragssatzstabilisierungsgesetz, which provides for a gradual increase in federal participation starting in 2031, they criticized simultaneous cuts to the regular federal subsidy for the health fund.
The association argues that healthcare for basic security recipients is a collective social responsibility that should not be financed by insurance contributors. Blatt is demanding that the federal government assume full responsibility for these costs to prevent the financial burden from falling on contributors.
