Police investigate separate violent incidents in Maranhão

Authorities in Maranhão, Brazil, are investigating two distinct violent incidents. In São Luís, a 43-year-old man was hospitalized with stab wounds to his neck, back, and chest following an alleged attempted homicide. Reports indicate the attack may have occurred after the victim failed to pay for sexual services, and the brother of the victim suggested the assailants might be linked to a criminal faction. The victim was treated at Hospital Socorrão II.

In Coelho Neto, a 42-year-old man was arrested after allegedly attempting to rape his 17-year-old niece. The victim reported that the suspect became aggressive, assaulted her, and attempted to force her to undress. Family members intervened after hearing cries for help, allowing the teenager to escape. The suspect reportedly resisted police during his arrest and has been taken to the 17th Regional Police Station in Caxias for investigation.
