Police investigate spectator death at Rally-SM in Vimmerby
Police have launched an investigation following the death of a spectator in their 70s during the Rally-SM competition in Vimmerby. The incident occurred on a special stage on a Friday evening when a competitor alerted officials via a tracking unit to an unconscious individual near the track.
While the situation was initially assessed as a potential medical emergency or accident, new witness testimony led competition organizers to contact the police. Reports indicate that the deceased and another individual had entered the track, and a third person attempted to remove them from the racing surface.
No competitors or officials were involved in the incident, and the Rally-SM event is proceeding as planned. Police are currently interviewing witnesses to clarify the exact circumstances of the death.
