Police investigate suspected animal abuse in Heidelberg

Authorities in Mannheim have launched a criminal investigation following the death of a four-month-old male cat in the Heidelberg-Boxberg district. The incident was reported on October 4 by the Rhein-Neckar professional animal rescue service.

Rescue workers reported that the cat was found in a critical condition with a body temperature of approximately 34 degrees Celsius. Despite intensive medical treatment at a veterinary clinic, the animal died from severe injuries. The rescue service stated that traces of sperm were found, suggesting the animal may have been a victim of sexual violence.

Police Chief Inspector Michael Klump confirmed that a specialized unit is investigating the case, though specific details regarding the exact location or potential suspects have not been released. In response to the incident, the animal welfare organization PETA has offered a reward of 1,000 euros for information leading to the identification of those responsible.
