Police investigate theft and false reports in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City
Authorities in Vietnam are investigating two separate incidents involving property theft and fraudulent reports.
In Hanoi, police in Phu Dien Ward have detained Nguyen Huy Hoang, born in 2005, for the theft of an iPhone 12 Pro Max. Hoang reportedly used social media to pose as a woman to establish a relationship with a victim. After meeting for food and drinks, Hoang allegedly took advantage of the victim's intoxication at a homestay to steal the device, which was subsequently sold for 5.5 million VND.
In Ho Chi Minh City, Tan Hung Ward police are investigating a false report of theft. A woman, identified as M. T., initially reported the loss of a Honda Vision motorbike, an iPhone 17 Pro, and an iPad. However, investigations revealed that M. T. and her boyfriend, B. N. T., had pawned the items to fund personal spending and filed the report to hide the transaction from their families.
