Police investigate two separate homicides in Maranhão and Mato Grosso

Authorities in Brazil are investigating two separate fatal incidents in the states of Maranhão and Mato Grosso.

In Pinheiro, Maranhão, the Civil Police are investigating the death of 43-year-old José Inácio Andrade. His body was discovered in a stream near the Ilha de Leonor region on Monday morning. Andrade had been missing since Sunday night. According to his brother, the victim wore an electronic ankle monitor and had reportedly received death threats prior to his disappearance.

In Juscimeira, Mato Grosso, 41-year-old Genivaldo Anacleto do Nascimento was shot and killed in front of his residence on Saturday night. Police found the victim with gunshot wounds to the face. The Civil Police and forensic experts are investigating the homicide, which occurs amid increased security monitoring in southern Mato Grosso due to regional violence linked to drug trafficking and faction disputes.
