Police launch community-based fraud prevention campaigns in Japan and Taiwan

Police departments in Japan and Taiwan are implementing localized community outreach programs to combat the rise of specialized fraud, including investment scams, romance scams, and AI-driven deepfakes.

In Fukui Prefecture, Japan, the Fukui Prefectural Police have partnered with barbershop and beauty salon associations. They are distributing educational booklets titled ‘This is Today’s Specialized Fraud!’ to salons. These materials, which include real-life victim testimonies, are intended to be read by customers during wait times or used as conversation starters between staff and clients to increase fraud awareness.

In New Taipei City, Taiwan, the Luzhou Police Precinct has launched a ‘fraud prevention classroom’ initiative within local dental clinics. By utilizing digital signage and televisions in waiting areas, the police broadcast short videos detailing common scam tactics, such as fake customer service calls and AI-generated voice impersonations. The goal is to integrate anti-fraud education into the daily routines of citizens during their spare time.
