Police link flag vandalism and railway gate damage in Yogyakarta

Police in Yogyakarta have linked two separate acts of vandalism involving the destruction of the Indonesian national flag and a railway crossing gate. A 24-year-old suspect, identified by the initial S, has been detained by Polresta Sleman.

Based on CCTV footage, physical characteristics, clothing, and vehicle descriptions, investigators concluded that the same individual committed both acts. The timeline indicates the suspect damaged the Merah Putih flag in Kasihan, Bantul, at approximately 17:10 WIB on Sunday, August 9, 2026, before moving to Gamping, Sleman, to damage a railway crossing gate at approximately 17:30 WIB.

The suspect faces multiple charges under the new Criminal Code (Undang-Undang No. 1/2023).
