Police lockdown in Geraldton area following shooting
Police have implemented a lockdown in the Moonyoonooka and Utakarra areas on the eastern edge of Geraldton, Western Australia, following a serious incident involving a firearm. The response began early Wednesday morning after a 32-year-old man was rushed to Geraldton Regional Hospital with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound.
Authorities stated the incident is believed to involve individuals known to one another. While significant police resources, including unmarked vehicles and forensic teams, have been deployed to the area, a spokesperson for the WA Police Mid West region indicated there is “no information to suggest an ongoing threat to the wider community.”
Although Geraldton Airport is located within the lockdown zone, officials confirmed that flights remain unaffected. Residents have been advised to stay away from the specific areas of Moonyoonooka and Utakarra while inquiries continue.
