Police motorcycle incidents reported during French student protests
Tensions have escalated during high school protests in France, involving incidents in Montpellier and Toulouse.
In Montpellier, journalist Valentin Levetti of Stup. Media reported being struck by an unmarked police motorcycle while attempting to film the arrest of a minor. Witnesses claim the collision was intentional. The reporter, wearing a ‘press’ vest, sustained a significant hematoma and required medical attention, resulting in a two-day work stoppage. The officer involved was reportedly not wearing mandatory identification or armbands and was wearing a helmet featuring symbols associated with far-right movements, including a cross pattée and a Punisher skull.
In Toulouse, a separate incident occurred during a gathering at Bellevue high school. A police motorcyclist lost control and crashed heavily during a confrontation involving students and law enforcement. The accident took place amidst the use of tear gas and projectiles thrown by students. The officer's injuries were not considered life-threatening.
