Police officer assassinated inside Timbiquí station in Cauca

Police officer José David Ahumada Mendoza was killed during the early hours of Sunday, September 13, 2026, inside the Timbiquí Police Station in the Cauca department of Colombia.

According to reports, an armed individual approached the station entrance and opened fire on the officer while he was on duty. Despite attempts by colleagues to provide assistance, the officer succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

National Inspector General Gregorio Eljach condemned the killing, describing it as a ‘cowardly act’ and expressing solidarity with the victim's family. Authorities have activated a security council in the municipality and deployed resources to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.
