Police officer denies sexual offense allegations in High Court

Carmichael John Williamson, a 32-year-old police officer from Burra, has denied several charges of sexual offenses allegedly committed in Shetland between 2014 and 2022. Appearing at the High Court in Edinburgh, Williamson testified that he did not engage in sexual activity with an adult woman outside a community hall during a 2022 celebration, stating, “None at all.” He also denied allegations of further sexual contact with the woman at a residence or physically assaulting her.

Regarding allegations involving a minor, Williamson denied having penetrative sex with a girl when she was 15 years old in 2014. He testified that while he met the individual via Snapchat as a student, sexual activity only occurred after she turned 16. He further stated he had no recollection of recording any sexual encounters, disputing claims that he used a tablet to record a teenager over a decade ago.

Williamson, who is currently suspended from his role as a police constable, faces testimony from a woman who alleged she was subjected to a non-consensual penetrative sex act when she was 15. Williamson has served as a police officer for more than 10 years.
