Police officer found dead in Venice maritime border police offices

A 37-year-old State Police officer, Ciro Esposito, was found dead on Sunday, September 27, at the maritime border police offices in Tronchetto, Venice. The officer, who was originally from the province of Naples and had joined the force in 2015, reportedly took his own life using his service weapon in the locker rooms shortly after arriving for his shift.

Colleagues discovered the body around 1:00 PM. Those who worked with Esposito described him as a quiet and helpful individual, noting that the incident was unexpected.

Franco Maccari, national vice president of the Fsp State Police union, expressed condolences and highlighted the importance of not overlooking signs of psychological distress among law enforcement personnel.
