Police officer injured after patrol vehicle falls into San Pedro River

A police patrol vehicle plunged into the San Pedro River after veering off Federal Highway 45 North in San Francisco de los Romo, Aguascalientes. The accident occurred near kilometer 23 while the vehicle was traveling from south to north.

Reports indicate the driver, a 25-year-old officer, may have experienced a mechanical failure or lost control of the steering, causing the vehicle to strike a metal guardrail and fall into the riverbed. The patrol car was left heavily damaged at the bottom of the ravine.

A large-scale rescue operation involved state firefighters, municipal police, Civil Protection, and the National Guard. Due to the officer's critical condition and the difficult terrain, the Halcón 1 helicopter from the Aguascalientes Municipal Police was deployed to perform an emergency aerial evacuation. The officer was transported in ‘code red’ status to Hospital Hidalgo for specialized medical treatment.
