Police officer killed in Nantes ring road accident during pursuit
A 22-year-old police officer died in the early hours of October 17 after being struck by a vehicle on the Nantes ring road in Loire-Atlantique. The officer, assigned to the Saint-Herblain police station, was part of a night patrol responding to a broken-down vehicle.
During the intervention, suspects allegedly damaged a vehicle belonging to the Direction interdépartementale des routes Ouest (DIRO) and attempted to flee on foot. While the officer was pursuing the individuals across the roadway, he was hit by a car. Despite receiving medical assistance, the officer succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The driver involved in the accident is reported to be in a state of shock. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez expressed his profound sadness over the tragedy. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
