Police officer killed in Waterloo land dispute

An Operational Support Division (OSD) officer, identified as David French, was reportedly killed during a land dispute in Madonkeh, on the outskirts of Waterloo. The officer was deployed to provide security for a property currently under a court injunction when he was allegedly attacked by a group of suspected gang members.

According to police reports, the officer was overpowered and disarmed before being attacked with machetes. Following the incident, a strike force led by Commissioner of Police Alhaji Ibrahim Mohamed Sama conducted a security operation in the area. During an exchange of gunfire, authorities arrested two serving members of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) and more than 20 other suspects.

One of the arrested soldiers was reportedly found in possession of the deceased officer’s loaded AK-47 rifle. RSLAF personnel arrived at the scene following the operation, and all detainees are currently in police custody as investigations continue to determine the exact circumstances of the death and the roles of those involved.
