Victoria Cantero detained for murder of Matías Álvarez Guardia in Resistencia

On Sunday morning in Resistencia, Chaco, 29‑year‑old Matías Julián Álvarez Guardia was stabbed in the chest during an argument with his 25‑year‑old girlfriend, Victoria Luz Cantero. He was taken to Hospital Julio C. Perrando but died from a hypovolemic shock and cardiac arrest despite emergency surgery. Cantero was arrested at the scene, placed in the Quinta police station and charged with aggravated homicide. Her lawyer announced she will not testify at the upcoming indagatory hearing. The investigation highlights a history of domestic violence: the victim’s family reported prior complaints, property damage, and repeated threats. New evidence includes previously unseen photographs of Álvarez Guardia with injuries, forensic analysis of a kitchen knife, and missing cash and a cellphone from the residence. Prosecutor Ana González de Pacce has ordered autopsy results, forensic examinations of the victim’s and suspect’s phones, and vehicle peritaje. The family, especially the victim’s sister, has publicly demanded justice, describing the relationship as “toxic” and “violent.” The case continues to draw extensive media coverage in Argentina.
