Drama police officer Antigoni murdered by husband in domestic attack

On 15 June 2026, 45‑year‑old police officer Antigoni was killed by her 50‑year‑old husband, also a police officer, in the city of Drama, Greece. The husband repeatedly stabbed Antigoni with a knife over 10 cm long, delivering seven or eight wounds, including a fatal stab to the heart. The assault occurred in the couple’s home while their 10‑year‑old son called emergency services; Antigoni died despite medical treatment. Hours later the husband shot himself with his service weapon and was found dead on a hill near the hospital.

Investigations revealed the couple had been living apart and that Antigoni had sought help weeks before the murder. She had attended a psychologist from the Hellenic Police and an independent psychiatrist, reported threats from her husband, and requested a workplace transfer and changed locks. The husband also attended a military psychologist, who later testified that “there was no indication” of violent behavior. No formal domestic‑violence report had been filed, and the police psychologist who saw the husband did not alert his superiors.

Antigoni’s funeral was held at the Saint Demetrios church in Kato Nefrokopi, attended by senior police officials and hundreds of mourners. Her husband was buried later in Drama’s Koudounia. The case has triggered public outcry over gender‑based violence and raised questions about the handling of psychological assessments within the police force.
