Policewoman murder in Drama, Greece leads to husband’s suicide and mother’s death
A 40‑year‑old female police officer was shot dead in her home in Drama, northern Greece. The alleged perpetrator was her husband, a 50‑year‑old police lieutenant, who had previously sought mental‑health assistance and was living separately from his wife despite sharing the family house. He accessed his service weapon, shot his spouse and later used the same gun to end his own life in a parked car. Hours after the double tragedy, the husband’s 70‑year‑old mother died of shock upon learning of the deaths of both her son and daughter‑in‑law. The case has sparked criticism of the authorities for not removing the weapon despite warnings, and for the handling of domestic‑violence reports in the police force.
