Police officer shoots brother in Rio Branco after bottle attack
On the night of 2 February in Rio Branco, Acre, 46‑year‑old Marcondes Silva de Jesus attempted to kill his brother, a member of the Brazilian Military Police, by striking him with the broken neck of a glass bottle. The officer ordered the assailant to stop, and when Marcondes continued the assault, the officer discharged his firearm, striking Marcondes in the left leg near the ankle. The wound caused bleeding but no fracture; the victim was treated by emergency services and released from the hospital. He will be taken to the police station for criminal proceedings on a charge of attempted homicide, and the officer will undergo internal police investigations.
The incident underscores the police response protocol in domestic violence situations involving armed threats.
