Nottingham police officer shot in city centre

A police officer was shot and wounded in Nottingham city centre during the early hours of Sunday, October 18, 2026. The incident occurred shortly before 4:50 am on Angel Row when the officer approached two suspects, a man and a woman.

The officer sustained a gunshot wound to the foot and was transported to a hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition. Bystanders provided immediate assistance to the officer before medical responders arrived. Authorities recovered a firearm, described as a sawn-off shotgun, from the street near a restaurant.

A large police cordon has been established, extending from Angel Row to St James’s Street, causing significant traffic disruptions and the closure of local businesses. Nottinghamshire Police have launched a manhunt for the two suspects, who fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas described the event as a “shocking incident and a sobering reminder of the potential dangers faced by officers.” While the investigation is ongoing, police stated there is currently no information suggesting a wider threat to the general public.
