Police officer stabbed in Adelaide, suspect shot by police

Around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, South Australia Police responded to reports of a knife‑wielding man running along Main North Road in Elizabeth East, a suburb of Adelaide. When officers moved to confront him, a female officer was stabbed in the neck and the 27‑year‑old suspect was shot in the leg. Both were taken to hospital; their injuries were described as serious but not life‑threatening.

Acting assistant commissioner David O'Donovan said the police “acted immediately to locate and engage the man in order to protect public safety” and praised the officers’ “courage and professionalism”. The southbound lane of Main North Road was closed while the scene was secured, and a major crime investigation was launched. The suspect remains in hospital under police guard and is expected to face very serious charges.
