Police officer to face judge after fatal Route 20 crash

Prosecutors have requested a formalization hearing for Cristian Luis Medina, a member of the GERAS Group, following a fatal traffic accident on National Route 20. The collision occurred on September 17 near kilometer 17 in the Las Chacritas area, within the 9 de Julio department.

The accident involved a Fiat Cronos driven by Medina and a Renault carrying 55-year-old Carlos Ariel Cortez, who died from his injuries. Another passenger in the Renault, 34-year-old Nelio Exequiel Rodríguez Guaquinchay, was injured and transported to Hospital Rawson. Medina also received medical attention following the crash.

The Special Crimes Prosecutor's Office (UFI Delitos Especiales) is conducting an investigation to reconstruct the mechanics of the accident. Key areas of analysis include the speed of both vehicles, visibility conditions, the functionality of the Renault's lighting system, and toxicological studies. The upcoming hearing will allow the prosecution to formally present the evidence and the specific legal charges against Medina.
