Police Officer Vasilios Nitsos Hospitalized After Fokida Wildfire

Police officer Vasilios Nitsos, General Secretary of the Fokida Police Officers Union and municipal councilor of Dorydos, was transferred to the University Hospital of Rion with respiratory problems after actively assisting in the suppression of a large wildfire that broke out in the Fokida region on 1 August 2026.

The Fokida Police Officers Union issued a statement expressing deep sorrow for the loss of firefighters and aerial crew members killed in the blaze, while also congratulating Nitsos on his recovery and praising the self‑less actions of police units that helped with traffic control, evacuations and fire‑fighting efforts.
