Police Officer Detained After Car Hits Motorbike Killing 4‑Year‑Old in Bone, South Sulawesi

On 5 August 2026 a motorbike carrying a 4‑year‑old child (initials GN), his mother and older sibling stopped at a red light at the Ahmad Yani–Besse Kajuara intersection in Watampone, Bone Regency, South Sulawesi. A black Daihatsu Xenia driven by police officer Ipda MA (49), who serves as the Acting Head of the Bengo Sub‑district Police, collided with the rear of the motorbike, allegedly after a brake failure.

The child suffered severe injuries and died despite intensive care at RSUD Tenriawaru Watampone. The mother and sibling survived without serious harm. Ipda MA was immediately secured by the Propam (Professional and Security) unit of Polres Bone, subjected to a urine test that returned negative for narcotics, and placed under investigation for possible disciplinary and ethical violations. The investigation continues to determine the exact cause of the brake malfunction.

Local police officials confirmed that the officer did not run a red light and that the incident is being handled according to legal and procedural standards.
